Västerås, Sweden

We’re excited to share one of our latest projects in Västerås, Sweden: a 2-metre-high, 7.5-metre-wide double-sided city sign that now serves as a distinctive and movable landmark. Led by our team in Malmö, this project is a great example of how design and engineering can shape meaningful public spaces.

Designed with both mobility and identity in mind, the sign can be relocated across the city and includes a wave-shaped bench that reflects Västerås’ graphic profile. It combines visual impact with public functionality.

The structure is built from perforated aluminium fronts, acrylic backing, and RGB-controlled LED lighting, which can be adapted to local events. Integrated mobile charging stations offer practical value, encouraging interaction and daily use.

Despite its size, the sign was engineered for safe mobility, supported by a reinforced base and durable steel foundation. Balancing aesthetics, functionality, and transportability was a key challenge, solved through close collaboration between design and engineering teams.

The project included four phases: concept design, engineering and prototyping, fabrication and feature integration and installation and urban testing.

Already embraced by locals and visitors as a popular photo spot, the sign has become a symbol of community pride and urban innovation.
