Southport Innovation Center

Southport Innovation Center is a revitalised commercial campus located in the heart of North Carolina’s Research Triangle. The site underwent a major rebranding initiative to reflect its new identity as a hub for innovation, collaboration, and growth.

Modulex partnered with general contractor Brasfield & Gorrie and their client Trinity Partners to deliver a bold and functional exterior signage package that complements the architectural vision and enhances the visitor experience.

The scope focused exclusively on exterior signage, with a mix of branding and wayfinding elements. This included:

-Monument signs, one of which spanned over 50 feet and was constructed from geometric aluminum panels and tubing. The complexity of its design required five rounds of field verification to ensure precision.
– Building identification signage to support the rebranding effort across the campus.
– Freestanding dimensional letters for Union Yard, engineered for both visual impact and structural integrity.
– A set of halo-illuminated letters installed on a sloped slat wall and bench area. These required custom fabrication to match the slope and multiple transformer relocations during installation.

Each element was designed to integrate with the site’s landscape and architectural features, while also standing up to the challenges posed by uneven terrain and dense landscaping.

While not entirely unexpected, the sloped terrain and landscaping presented significant installation challenges. The monument signs, in particular, demanded a high level of coordination and craftsmanship to accommodate the geometric angles and site conditions.

Our team worked closely with fabricators and installers to adapt designs on-site, ensuring that each sign was properly positioned and securely mounted.
