Malmö Möts
Our team in Sweden has recently completed a striking signage installation for Malmö Möts, a public engagement initiative by Malmö Stad focused on democracy, equality, and inclusion. The project centred around an illuminated rooftop sign carrying a clear and powerful message: DEMOCRACY.
Installed on top of a temporary event container used for public discussions and civic dialogue, the sign became a central visual element in Malmö’s urban landscape. The design features individually framed letters, each set within slightly shifted rectangular forms, creating a rhythmic and expressive composition that captures attention from a distance while symbolising the diversity of voices that define democratic participation.
The signage was designed as a double-sided installation, displaying “DEMOKRATI” on one side and “DEMOCRACY” on the other, ensuring accessibility for both local and international audiences. As a rooftop-mounted structure on a mobile unit, the project required a solution that was visually bold, structurally secure, and suitable for repeated outdoor use.
One of the main challenges was balancing expressive design with technical performance. The team addressed this by developing a lightweight, modular construction using reused aluminium, combined with internally illuminated letter boxes that provide durability, weather resistance, and strong visibility in varying conditions.
Sustainability played a key role throughout the project. The illuminated letter faces were produced using 100% recycled acrylic, paired with low-energy LED lighting. The modular and reusable design further supports circular principles, demonstrating how sustainable signage can amplify civic messages in public spaces.
Malmö Möts is a strong example of how signage can go beyond wayfinding to act as a symbol, a conversation starter, and a reflection of shared societal values. Our team in Sweden is proud to have contributed to a project that brings design, sustainability, and democratic engagement together in a meaningful way.
