Embassy of Sharing Malmö:
Sustainable Signage & Wayfinding Design
Located in Hyllie, Malmö, Embassy of Sharing is a pioneering mixed-use development designed around the principles of sharing economy, social inclusion, circularity and sustainable urban development. As one of the flagship projects supporting Hyllie’s ambition to become one of Europe’s most climate-smart urban districts, the development brings together innovation, collaboration and resource-efficient living in a single destination.
The team in Sweden was appointed by Granitor as the strategic signage partner for the project, responsible for the complete exterior and interior signage program, wayfinding strategy, design development, technical engineering, project management, production, and implementation.
The team also acted as a coordinating partner among the client, construction contractor, electrical contractor, and numerous tenants, helping to ensure a consistent visual identity across the entire development.
The exterior signage concept was developed to establish a clear visual hierarchy while reinforcing the values of quality, sustainability and collaboration.
The solution included:
- Illuminated property signage for the landmark buildings Fyrtornet and Drivbänken
- LED-neon inspired signage using routed acrylic and energy-efficient LED technology
- Architectural support structures incorporated as a deliberate design feature
- Tenant signage with a restrained monochromatic expression to ensure visual consistency
The interior wayfinding concept continues the same design language throughout the buildings, creating a cohesive experience for visitors and occupants.
Key elements included:
- Illuminated wayfinding signage using warm LED-neon styling
- Natural wood elements
- Preserved moss integrated into selected features
- Directional signage designed to improve visitor navigation
- Health-promoting wayfinding encourages the use of prominent staircases
Sustainability was a fundamental principle throughout the signage program.
The illuminated property signage combines energy-efficient LED technology with routed acrylic to recreate the warmth of traditional neon while significantly reducing energy consumption and maintenance requirements.
Natural materials such as wood and preserved moss further reinforce the environmental ambitions of the development, contributing to a calm and biophilic interior environment.
The signage was also designed with future adaptability in mind. Standardised mounting systems and flexible tenant signage allow updates to be made without replacing entire structures, supporting circular thinking and extending the lifecycle of the installation.
The final solution delivers a clear and cohesive visual identity across a complex multi-tenant development, intuitive navigation for visitors and occupants, smooth integration between signage and architecture, long-term flexibility for future tenant changes and a sustainable approach aligned with the vision of Embassy of Sharing and the wider ambitions of Hyllie.
