Modulex Group Wins 2024 Innovation Award From the Society of Environmental Graphic Designers

Billund, Denmark
October 10, 2024

Modulex Group, a global leader in visual communication solutions, is excited to announce that it has received the Society for Environmental Graphic Design (SEGD) Annual Innovation Award for ReBond, repurposed carpet waste used to create a new architectural signage material.

The SEGD Innovation Award recognizes members who have advanced technology in the field, developing innovative expertise and creative processes that expand the impact of experience design.

ReBond is a collaboration between Modulex, the global leader in architectural and wayfinding signage, Dansk Wilton, a Danish carpet manufacturer serving the cruise ship and hospitality industry and Elektro-Isola, a material developer and manufacturer based in Denmark.

Kim Pedersen, Director of Modulex’s factory in Billund, said, “We are honoured that SEGD has named ReBond the Innovation of the Year award recipient. This recognition highlights positive collaboration by like-minded companies and demonstrates our commitment to transforming what was once considered waste into something valuable.”

ReBond is created using waste from Dansk Wilton, a Danish carpet manufacturer known for its cradle-to-cradle-certified carpet solution. The process begins with removing carpets and recovering production scraps, which are then shredded into fine fibres using innovative technology. These shredded textile fibres are blended with a melting binding fibre, providing the consistency needed to form felt mats. To produce ReBond, each felt is pressed into 3mm sheets with a white surface layer, strengthening the material and enabling direct print on each panel.
