Sustainability in signage is no longer just about materials; it’s about mindset. André Zandelin, President of Scandinavian Operations at Modulex, brings a thoughtful approach to this shift, where circularity, collaboration, and care for the environment shape every design decision. “A modular product creates the best opportunity for being circular,” André explains. “It’s not single-use; it’s something you can adapt and use over many cycles.” From modular systems to recycled materials, Modulex is helping global brands turn signage into a long-term sustainability strategy designed to last, evolve, and make an impact.

Built from the Core: Modularity as a Mindset

For André, sustainability at Modulex begins with the very DNA of the product. “What attracted me to Modulex was the modularity,” he shares. “A modular product creates the best opportunity for being circular. It’s not single-use, you can adapt and use over many cycles.” This modular approach allows Modulex to offer truly circular systems, where components are designed for long-term reuse, reconfiguration, or material recovery.

Materials with a Message

Regarding sustainable signage, materials matter, and Modulex has developed its own. “We’re very proud of Compact, GreenBond™, Etronit, Green Cast® and ReBond,” says André. “They lower environmental impact significantly, and in the case of ReBond, the material even tells a story; it shows that it was something else before (recycled carpet).”

From Lifecycle to Legacy

Durability is often overlooked in conversations around sustainability, but not at Modulex. “Creating a beautiful, high-quality sign means it lasts longer because people don’t want to replace it,” André explains. “Aesthetics are part of sustainability too.”

Modulex signage solutions are often designed to be easily updated over time, like LED signs that allow for easy replacement of internal systems without starting from scratch. This flexible lifecycle approach makes sustainability practical and scalable across global projects.

Educating Through Simplicity

Not all clients start with sustainability as a top priority, but that’s where Modulex leads by example. “We try to make it simple,” André says. “We show alternative materials and highlight the impact they can make. We don’t position the sustainable option as a ‘nice to have’; we present it as the standard. That’s how we nudge clients toward better choices.” This values first strategy is about normalising responsibility, not preaching it.

Certification-Ready and Future-Focused

“Even if signage doesn’t always directly check a certification box,” André explains, “we design in alignment with the broader environmental ambitions of the space.” Circular principles increasingly shape that alignment. “We see the future in reusing materials and offering signage as a service, not just delivering a product and walking away. It’s about building long term partnerships, maintaining and updating signs to keep them alive for as long as possible.”

Leading by Example

“To me, it’s not about chasing trends,” André concludes. “It’s about leading by example and staying committed to innovation. I love being part of Modulex; we have the drive and capacity to be leaders in this space.”

From modular design to recycled materials, from client education to lifecycle thinking, Modulex is more than a signage provider. It’s a sustainability partner, helping global brands build trust and reduce impact one sign at a time.
