Certified Sustainable Manufacturing
Sustainable practices have always been at the forefront of our production at Modulex. We are continuously striving to do better and be better. Our effort to be responsible to the environment, suppliers and employees have always been a part of our DNA.
Supply
We carefully choose local suppliers to minimise our carbon footprint and ensure that our products come from socially and environmentally responsible sources.
We work closely with our suppliers to reduce our overall waste and impact on the environment. For example, we ensure that the raw paper used in Compact is FSC® certified.
Materials
By choosing durable materials and applying a unique treatment to protect them, our products’ life cycle extends up to decades. In turn, customers do not need to replace them as often, and this minimises waste significantly.
Optimised Wayfinding
Environmentally acceptable practices begin not just at the product design stage but in how it is applied. By ensuring that we understand our customers’ churn rates and change, we can advise on the most flexible product to suit their needs.
These practices mean reducing the amounts of panels installed and changed by providing efficient and optimised wayfinding solutions.
Chrome Free Coating
Aluminium can be chrome treated before painting. Despite giving an excellent finish, chrome waste is hazardous. Following years of research, we have developed a chrome-free pre-treatment which ensures the same high-quality finish but is much safer for the environment.
Greenguard Certified
All of our eco-solvents and 70% (2023) of UK-inks are Greenguard Gold Certified. This certification ensures that the inks used in our environmental graphic solutions and our printed signs have very low VOC emissions, making our products healthy and safe in sensitive environments such as schools and healthcare facilities.
We support the UN Sustainable Development Goals
At our Billund factory, we see the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs) as the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice.
The SDGs focus on corporate sustainability will significantly influence global supply chain management and corporate strategy. As part of our environmental strategy, we focus on the small details in our production chain and product assortment to minimise our impact on the environment and strive to lead our development sustainably.
Upcycling
Modulex sign families, manufactured to be upcycled to enable a new design by simply changing the panels and keeping the structure. Through modular signage, old parts can be recycled, and signs can be upcycled, updated or upgraded.
Modularity
Modularity is part of our DNA at the Billund factory, and we are known for it. Modularity is an integral part of our LEGO® legacy has been around for 50 years as one of our core foundations.
Our modular products are designed to be easily assembled and disassembled, ensuring that components are easily updated, repurposed, or recycled.
Upcycling
Our module-based signage can be upcycled by reusing sign structures and simply adding a new set of panels. Upcycling minimises overall waste, costs and turns outdated signs into products with a refreshed design and an added environmental value.
Upcycling helps our customers by making it easier and cheaper to renew their signs whilst contributing to a circular economy.
LED Upgrading
Non-illuminated signs can be upcycled into LED-illuminated by changing the panel. This modular upgrade uses our signs’ brick-by-brick nature to improve them without buying entirely new ones, thus minimising waste.
Adding illumination gives customers the possibility of upgrading Modulex products in many combinations to achieve new enhanced signs while doing so sustainably.
Vinyl Upcycling
Billund’s design vinyl offers a customer-directed service to upcycle any furniture or interior space through a wide range of vinyl designs. In other words, we ‘give life back’ to degraded furniture items such as tables, doors, or even entire rooms as an alternative to discarding them.
With a range of 50 vinyl designs, such elements can be upcycled into new products with added value, allowing users to renovate interiors and save money in an environmentally friendly way.
